ABOUT ME

Loving retirement and enjoying craft work. I've always been of a creative nature. I took up drawing and painting when I was in my twenties but life got in the way of hobbies. Now, in my seventies I am fulfilling that desire I had back then.

Having time to spend any way I want to, I can dive right into arts and crafts. I've never had any training and frankly don't want any. I want to see what I can do with my own innate talent. I have sold many pieces in the last few years and hope that this blog will assist with sales in the future.

I enjoy folk art more than anything I have tried in the past. I spend a lot of time looking at websites containing folk art from many countries and get my inspiration mainly from African, Hispanic, and Native American art. If it's brightly colored I love it. I paint mostly with reds, blues, yellows, and greens. It has to be vibrant or I won't do it.

I live in a Cajun community in Houma, Louisiana, rich in its culture and I draw inspiration from my background and heritage - which can clearly be seen in my artwork and writing.

I'm getting better with painting water scenes as well as sky but still need practice in these areas. I can not for the life of me paint a nose. Shading and blending are a challenge for me, but I'm not giving up.

I wake every morning excited to go downstairs and begin painting and creating folk art on my back porch studio.

FOLK ART FUN

This blog will be used to display my folk art paintings. I paint on wooden fence slats, wooden serving trays, plywood, and canvas. I also cut out and build small wooden tables. I prime all wood with 2 coats of white paint then draw my design onto the wood. I design my own houses to paint on the fence slats and use acrylic paints.
